A step beyond the previous base model
Its direct predecessor has a slightly smaller reference canvas. Checking both neighboring widths can expose a tight layout boundary, but the small difference alone does not justify a new major breakpoint.
iPhone 15: 6.1″, 1179 × 2556, 460 PPI, 393 × 852 CSS viewport at DPR 3. It establishes the tracked base-model layout group that continues with iPhone 16 and is shared by iPhone 15 Pro, allowing one responsive target to cover several named devices without collapsing their hardware checks.
Its direct predecessor has a slightly smaller reference canvas. Checking both neighboring widths can expose a tight layout boundary, but the small difference alone does not justify a new major breakpoint.
The same-generation Pro model uses the same primary layout reference, which removes the need for a separate responsive target based on the product tier alone.
The following base model keeps this reference, letting teams retain established automation while updating named-device and visual coverage.
Worked example · reference dimensions
From iPhone 14 to iPhone 15, the reference canvas gains 3 CSS px in width and 8 in height. From iPhone 15 to iPhone 16, the width and height changes are 0 and 0 CSS px.
The first width increase is about 0.8%. All three list the same 6.1″ nominal diagonal. A shared diagonal does not specify the CSS canvas.
Portrait reference illustration. Differences are calculated between the named consecutive models. These small changes are shown at a common scale; the values above remain the useful comparison when the outlines look nearly identical.
CSS canvas, DPR and workspace values are references, not manufacturer guarantees or live browser measurements. Matching references alone do not guarantee identical fonts, line breaks or rendering across real devices.
These are the dates of the recorded fact checks. A hardware specification source does not establish a browser viewport. Calculations and illustration assumptions are described above; no new device measurements are claimed.
The specifications below come from the device records; the notes explain why each comparison is useful.
| Device configuration | Matched to | Screen | Panel | Viewport / workspace | PPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Current page | iPhone 15 | 6.1″ | 1179 × 2556 | 393 × 852 | 460 |
| iPhone 14 The previous base model supplies the adjacent compact reference needed to test the generational layout change. | iPhone 15 | 6.1″ | 1170 × 2532 | 390 × 844 | 460 |
| iPhone 16 The direct successor keeps the same layout target, clarifying which responsive checks can carry forward unchanged. | iPhone 15 | 6.1″ | 1179 × 2556 | 393 × 852 | 460 |
/* iPhone 15 — portrait reference, not a breakpoint */
viewport: 393 × 852 CSS px
panel: 1179 × 2556 · DPR 3
/* Test immediately below and above your layout breakpoints. */Use the 393 × 852 CSS px at DPR 3 as a real QA target, then pair it with nearby widths for regression testing.
Values marked official come from manufacturer specifications; calculated values are derived from them; reference values are developer layout references and can vary with browser, zoom and operating-system settings.
